FLANC ACCEPTS "TEACHER OF THE YEAR"

NOMINATIONS

Nominations are now being accepted for the 2009 Foreign Language Teacher of the Year Award to be awarded to an outstanding K-12 teacher and University level in North Carolina.

The procedure consists of three parts: 1) a signed letter by the nominee accepting the nomination 2) résumé to be compiled by the nominee, and 3) at least three letters of recommendation written on behalf of the nominee.  

Award winners will be presented with a plaque during the FLANC Business Meeting during the annual conference.  K-12 winners receive a monetary stipend and will nominated for the SCOLT regional Teacher of the Year.  

The deadline for packet submission is May 1st.

CRITERIA FOR NOMINATION

  • Nominations may only be made by a current FLANC member and may not be submitted on his/her own behalf. Please include your name, address, and phone number.
  • Nominees must be current FLANC members and may be presently employed as full-time classroom (no supervisory or administrative duties) foreign language teachers at any level, i.e. elementary, middle school or junior high, high school, or post-secondary in North Carolina. Please include the nominee's name, address and telephone number or email address. Current FLANC officers, board members, committee chairs, appointed position holders, and former FLANC Teacher of the Year award winners are not eligible for nomination.

RÉSUMÉ OF NOMINEE

Once a FLANC representative has received the nomination, the following materials will be required of all nominees:
     1. Educational background
     2. Teaching experience
     3. Travel experience
     4. Memberships in professional organizations
     5. Service to FLANC
     6. Record of professional achievements and/or contributions - service to school, foreign language program, professional organizations (workshops, presentations, papers read, etc.)
     7. Nominee's statement - philosophy of teaching, importance of foreign language study, successful qualities of teaching and professional involvement.


LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION (Any combination from the listed categories)

A minimum of three and a maximum of six letters of recommendation will be accepted. The letters should come from the different categories below. The letters must specifically address the nominee's teaching/classroom experience and delineate his or her contributions to the field.

     4. Colleagues
     5. Seminar or Workshop Leader
     6. Former Students
