The Foreign Languages Department at Emory & Henry College is seeking a one-year, with possibility of renewal, full-time Visiting Assistant Professor or Instructor of Spanish to teach six to eight introductory-level courses per year (on a 3 + 3 or 4 + 4 basis). Middle and Lower School Spanish Teaching positions

For the 2019-20 school year, we are seeking two experienced, dynamic Spanish teachers for our Lower School and Middle School divisions. We are proud of our very strong World Language Department and seek candidates who have excellent Spanish language skills and who are able to conduct classes in the language. We also are looking for an educator who is well versed in current teaching pedagogy, innovative program design, and diverse learning styles and profiles.

The Lower School position will teach grades PreK through Grade 4. The Middle School position will teach Grade 5 through Grade 8. Other responsibilities will include advising 8-10 students (Middle School), occasional supervisory obligation, serving on school committees, and the opportunity to coach a team or sponsor a club.

Our ideal candidate will:

Mandarin Teacher - Winston-Salem, NC

Job Description

The Mandarin teacher will teach at least three Mandarin courses and serve as the International Student Coordinator to assist with international student life in the United States.

Mandarin Teacher Responsibilities

  • Teach three Mandarin Chinese courses including Honors Mandarin II, Honors Mandarin III, and Honors Mandarin IV

  • Provide a range of learning strategies to meet the different needs of students

  • Administers performance-based assessments to evaluate students’ language proficiency

  • Work collaboratively with other members of the World Languages department to develop, implement, and evaluate curriculum

  • Mentor and connect with international students

  • Serve as an advisor for both International club and Chinese club

  • Coordinate International Day

  • Offer extracurricular activities such as a Chinese New Year celebration

  • Establish and maintain relationships with college world language program

  • Serve as a Class Advisor

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Be involved with International Student Orientation

  • Attends monthly department meetings

  • Manage additional communication with Chinese families with WeChat

  • Meet with ASSIST students monthly and complete the monthly report

Required Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

The Director, Bilingual Education Programs will oversee our network of over 400 schools and the program managers responsible for implementation support for Participate global and bilingual school programs.

The ideal candidate will have leadership experience with an instructional model that has realized high levels of student achievement across a network of schools focused on global competence and dual language learning. The Director will lead a team responsible for regional support and effectively collaborate with district and school-level administrators, teachers, school-based staff, parents, and community stakeholders. Strategic and Instructional Leadership

  • Shape the vision, strategy and execution of Participate Schools

  • Articulate and operationalize a clear vision and align resources to achieve goals

  • Lead principals, each school’s leadership team, and teachers to collectively and individually monitor the schools progress in achieving their programmatic goals

  • Visit clients and prospects, attend conferences, and make presentations to build relationships, promote the company and build clientele.

Program Development and Oversight

  • Ensure organizational accountability and alignment of global school goals with company goals.

  • Work with Participate Leadership Team to direct program development, including market analysis, scope, metrics, organization, resourcing, plan development and risk management.

Key Knowledge, Skill, Ability and Education Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Education or combination of equivalent education and experience

  • 7+ years managing professional staff in educational administration, or program management.

  • Expertise in dual language, bilingual and language acquisition for students; K-5 experience preferred

  • Advanced 2nd language language skills preferred - Spanish or Mandarin are a plus!

  • Strong pedagogical skills that can be leveraged to consistently evaluate - and improve - our school models, programs, and services with a laser-focus on improving student outcomes

  • Excellent communication, influencing, and negotiation skills to interact effectively with all levels of the organization, the school network, and external stakeholders

  • Experience in a client facing leadership role

  • Proven ability and desire to solve problems and look for opportunities for improvement

  • Knowledge of the K–12 US education market
