The Jane Mitchell / Manolita Buck FLANC Honorary Scholarship
The Foreign Language Association of North Carolina is proud to sponsor this scholarship to a well deserving prospective foreign language teacher in North Carolina. These two outstanding foreign language professionals and FLANC members from North Carolina, Jane Mitchell and Manolita Buck have made significant contributions in the advancement of foreign language education in North Carolina. The recipient of this award will receive $1,000 toward tuition and free registration to the next FLANC Annual Conference.
Eligibility:
Candidates must:
- Be entering the final year of undergraduate study
- Have a GPA of 3.0 or higher
- Express commitment to teach a foreign language in North Carolina
- Be enrolled in a North Carolina institution of higher learning
Application Process:
Applications are available through Foreign Language Teacher Education Programs at all recognized NC institutions of higher learning in February.
Applications must be postmarked by March 15th of the current year and must include the following:
- Two letters of recommendation (One from a university professor attesting to the applicant’s desire to become a foreign language educator)
- Completed essays (one must be in the target language)
- A current resume
- A current, official transcript
Finalists will be invited in April for interviews with the FLANC Scholarship Selection Committee. Finalists will be interviewed in English and in the target language.
The Scholarship winner will be announced by May 1st.
