Scholarships

Jane Mitchell-Manolita Buck Scholarship

Each year, this scholarship honors Jane Mitchell (French, UNC-Greensboro) and Manolita Buck (Spanish, East Carolina University), two language educators instrumental in shaping a vision for world language education in our state. Dr. Mary Lynn Redmond established the scholarship in 1996 upon the retirement of Mitchell and Buck. The scholarship awards $1000 to a student entering his or her final year of study in a program leading to teacher licensure in a world language in North Carolina. This scholarship is open to students enrolled at any college or university in North Carolina.

Scholarship finalists will be asked to participate in an interview via video conference (Zoom) with the scholarship and mini grant committee. The scholarship winner will be informed prior to the Fall Conference. For more information and for application support, contact our scholarship and mini grant chair at scholarship.minigrant@flanc.org.

The deadline for submitting an application is September 21, 2024. Prospective World Language Educators may apply here!

Beginning Teacher Fall Conference Scholarship (K-12)

In an ongoing effort to encourage new teacher attendance and to support the newest members of our profession, FLANC has reduced the cost for K-12 beginning teachers (in the first three years of teaching) to attend the fall conference for only $105. This fee also includes one year’s membership in FLANC.

FLANC is also pleased to award scholarships for the Fall Conference to beginning teachers in their 1st, 2nd, or 3rd year of teaching (K-12). These scholarships fully reimburse the $105 Beginning Teacher conference registration fee and also include a ticket to one 3-hour workshop at no cost ($35 value). The conference will give beginning teachers an invaluable opportunity to learn new ideas to bring back to their classrooms, mingle with other language teachers, and see what exciting products the world language vendors have to offer.

Recipients of the scholarship will be informed prior to the conference. For more information and for application support, contact our scholarship and mini grant chair at scholarship.minigrant@flanc.org.

The deadline for submitting an application is September 21, 2024.

World Language AND Dual Language/Immersion teachers in their first 3 years of teaching in the State of North Carolina may apply here!
